USER INTERVIEWS
Conducting research helps developers get into users’ mindsets. Common modes of research include listening to and observing users; interviewing; and offering online surveys. User interviews tend to provide qualitative rather than quantitative data.

PERSONAS
Each persona represents a significant portion of people in the real world and enables the designer to focus on a manageable and memorable cast of characters, instead of focusing on thousands of individuals. Personas aid designers to create different designs for different kinds of people and to design for a specific somebody, rather than a generic everybody.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
Scenarios describe the stories and context behind why a specific user or user group comes to your site.
They note the goals and questions to be achieved and sometimes define the possibilities of how the user(s) can achieve them on the site.

SITEMAP
Sitemaps are a hierarchical diagram showing the structure of a website or application.
They can also be used as a reference point for wireframes, functional specifications and content maps.

COMPETITION RESEARCH
Evaluating the competition involves looking at designs of products that are both in direct and indirect competition.
Products that directly compete with each other are looking to solve the same problem.
Indirect competitors either have a different user base or different service offering, and some aspects of the product overlap.

LOW-FIDELITY PROTOTYPES
Low-fidelity prototypes are rough representations of concepts that help us to validate those concepts early on in the design process. The technique facilitates listening, rather than selling. It opens a conversation in which users’ needs, designers’ intentions and other stakeholders’ goals are discussed and aligned.

WIREFRAMES
A wireframe is a visual representation of a user interface, stripped of any visual design or branding elements.
The UX Designer define the hierachy of items on a screen and communicate what the items on that page should be based on user needs.
